Johnson Crossing, YT

Tuesday, June 14. We’ve been traveling for one month as of today.

We decided to stay in Watson Lake only one night even though we had planned on two. There is nothing to do there and  it was totally overcast.  We have a 4 1/2 hour drive to Whitehorse, the capital and most highly populated town in the Yukon. Actually, it will be a whole lot longer than 4 1/2 hours because there’s been a lot of gravel and road construction. One stretch of gravel was 6 miles long and the whole line of RVs was waiting to move along. It’s been raining all day long, totally overcast, so the radio can’t pick up a satellite signal. We haven’t seen any animals yet.  I wonder where they go when it rains.

We decided to stop along the way at Johnson Crossing. When I walked into the office/store/bakery the warmth and the sight of the berry scone was enough to help me decide to stay the night.

They had lots of rain and a heavier year than normal of snowfall last winter.

  1. Curious how you are adjusting your 51 reservations with change in plans. Our neighbors sold their RV in Alaska and flew home. Said it took a beating and was easy to sell there.

    • When we took Harvey for his inverter/water pump fix and stayed in Calgary there were no problems to make campground changes. We had a couple of extra days to work with. Watson Lake one night instead of two was easy. Today was the first time we tried to make a spur of the moment change and found that some places were full. Ended up fine here at Johnson Crossing.
