Saturday, June 25. It’s golden!

This is the day we’ve been talking about for a long time. It’s our 50th anniversary. Wow! We took the shuttle to see the Denali Sled Dogs kennels. We were permitted to walk around where they were tied up and most of the dogs were enjoying a warm afternoon siesta. Then we sat and listened to a presentation from the ranger before five dogs were tied to a summer sled to run the short circuit and rest in front of us with a treat for gnawing. The ranger told us to howl loudly to get the dogs excited and did they ever! They all got up and jumped around their kennels and started howling too. Very cute!

We finished the day with a fancy dinner to celebrate our big day. We tried King salmon and Sockeye salmon, prepared the same way to compare. Contrary to the popular choice we both preferred the Sockeye.

The shuttle bus and oncoming traffic all stopped to allow this female moose to cross the road.
Ah, the proverbial photo bomb

Now we’re in Anchorage, the largest city in the state, with a population just under 300,000. We went downtown to the visitors center with this beautiful planting of begonias and got info for bicycle routes in town.
