Anchorage Part II to Seward

We had a nice week in Anchorage.  The weather was perfect, mid 70s to low 80s and sunny.  The locals were happy that we brought the good weather from Florida.  We decided to rent a car for three days so we could see more of the city. What a great idea! It gave us freedom and flexibility as packing up Harvey to drive around is a big job. We played disc golf three times. Twice at Kincaid Park and once about 45 minutes away at Peter’s Creek.

See Steve with his frisbee at the top of the big hill?
I didn’t need to go up there.
Steve is trying to make a snowball with all the cotton fluff.

From here we were so close to Wasilla we decided to check it out.  The visitor’s center was closed but the nice young woman opened it up for us and gave us lots of information and maps.  There was not much to see or do but she did tell us about the local hot spot for ice cream.

Who knew the large was going to be so huge?

This is cow parsnip. We were warned not to touch the stem because the oil in it could cause one’s skin to blister.

The flowers in Alaska are abundant and colorful.  They must be very happy with the long days of gentle sun.

Here are some more statistics about the 1964 earthquake I mentioned in the last blog.

Sunday, July 3

We arrived in Seward in the early afternoon.  The drive was under 3 hours so we took a side road to Girdwood and saw the Alyeska Ski resort.

The drive had some beautiful views of the Turnagain Arm

Our campsite in Seward is almost at the waterfront, one row away from Resurrection Bay.  There are hundreds of RVs all lined up in four rows. The bay is in front of us and behind it are mountains with some snow remaining on them.  Tomorrow is the Fourth of July and fireworks are scheduled over the bay tonight at midnight.  Stay tuned… and stay awake!
