We took Harvey to the Dodge dealer in Flagstaff on Monday morning. The new gas tank took several days to arrive and then the dealer had to install it. On Friday, four days later, the gas tank was fixed and the noxious odors were gone. Then we were ready to head east. More about that in the next post. In the meantime we made the best of the situation in Flagstaff with our hotel room and rental car.
On Tuesday we drove an hour south to Sedona The woman at the visitor’s center gave us good advice and a helpful map and we were on our way. From afar we saw the beautiful red hills for which they are known.
On Wednesday we drove 1 1/2 hours north to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was rainy and cold and the fog set in. The Grand Canyon was amazing even after all the sights we had recently seen. But it was cold and nasty out. We took shelter in the gift shop and ate pizza as we watched the weather apps that kept saying the weather would clear. We were able to enjoy sunset even though there were fog clouds in the canyon.
On Thursday we really had nothing else to do and the weather was beautiful so we went back to the Grand Canyon and the views were fabulous. Besides going to many viewpoints at overlooks we saw four different elk. After all the Utah parks this one was truly Grand.

Glad that the weather improved. The Grand Canyon is truly spectacular. Photos never do it Justice.
Poor Harvey – poor Debi and Steve – although Debi and Steve can always find fun things to do. And wow, you did in the Grand Canyon! What great pictures. And like you, I was not too keen on hiking Bright Angel trail. Give me butterflies in my stomach to think of it.
Glad Harvey is feeling better. Of course Gene wants to know all the details on what happen to his gas tank.
Beautiful pictures! Life time memories!
The hike down Bright Angel isn’t as daunting as it looks – but you do need time and lots of water. My observation is that Steve has (possibly purchased?) a t-shirt from almost every stop – am I correct? What a great way to ‘remember’ where you’ve been!
Great pics.
IMHO The Chapel in the Rocks is a bit of a blot on the landscape.
