We got home on Monday, October 3rd after a week in Austin with our wonderful niece, her husband, their son and their sweet dog. We kept ourselves busy as they were at work and at school. We had good lunches out and enjoyed going around Austin in their big red Texas truck. In the evenings we went out together and had a really good time.
We made it home in three days driving about 6 hours each day which was longer than any of our days on this trip. I guess we were excited to get home finally after 4 1/2 month away. And we especially wanted to return to see the damage done by Hurricane Ian. Our roof lost a few shingles and we had some debris in the yard. The power was out for four days but by the time we arrived it was restored. We did have to throw away a lot of food. We were so lucky considering the devastation done by the hurricane not that far away from here. I also had four months of plant growth that had to be tamed back again. Little by little we are putting all the travel stuff away and trying to acclimate ourselves back to normal life.
Some of what I’ve learned from this trip:
- Cities, towns and villages are just cities towns and villages. Sure, they each have their own flavor and things that make them special but otherwise they are not that different from each other.
- People are basically nice and pleasant if I’m pleasant to them. Often I have to be the first to say hello and then they are happy to respond in kind.
- I wouldn’t trade Harvey in for any other type of RV. Sure, he had his mechanical problems but that could happen to any of them. He was small and easy to drive, he was built efficiently and living in such a small environment kept things simple.
- Steve and I make a great team. We got along so well and enjoyed doing things together. If we had a kerfuffle we talked and worked it out. I think this happened twice.
- There’s no place like home. Whether it’s back in our big house or in our tiny camper we have our stuff and we have each other.
- We appreciate all our friends and family who followed along on this blog. It makes it more fun when we know you are reading and commenting and enjoying what I’ve said and what photos I’ve shared.

Glad you, Steve and Harvey are safely home. Also that you didn’t have too much damage from the Hurricane. It was so nice to meet the two of you and spend time together in Santa Fe❤️
So glad to know you now!
Welcome back. I’ve hesitated sending anything knowing you were probably inundated with emails or messages from family and other friends. Bill and I have enjoyed following along on your adventure. Sending love and hugs to you both.
