Yellowstone National Park

We stayed at a lovely RV park in West Yellowstone, Montana 5 minutes west of the entrance to the park. Nice to have a campground well maintained and other campers nearby. We were able to ride our tandem through the park and into town. We found the tourist area. Lots of souvenir and t-shirt shops and too many people. We were glad to get back to the serene campground after a few miles of looking around.

Yesterday we spent the whole day at Yellowstone. We had been there in the winter in the early 90’s where we rented snowmobiles with the kids and saw paint pots, fumaroles and Old Faithful. This time we went north, saw smaller geysers and odd land formations, the Canyons and vistas. But the thrill is to see the animals.

We entered the park at 9AM but were sitting in stopped traffic for an hour and a half. Why? Because the bison were in the road ahead and the rangers had to come (finally) and direct them off the road!

We were lucky to spot a black bear and so many bison!

The Canyon and its fabulous waterfall
The sky was ominous but we lucked out… no rain until we were driving out of the park about 5PM.
Enough snow for a snowball!
Someone walked up and skied down here
Geysers and strange land formations

Today we left West Yellowstone and headed north to Great Falls, Montana for the night. Every day has been so cool that we’ve been wearing jeans and sweatshirts. Finally when we arrived at the campground this afternoon we needed the AC. But now it’s raining and 58 degrees. I like that! On the highway today this is what it looked like… and what is that wide load that is being hauled? Maybe it’s one of the blades from those big windmills.

Tomorrow we’ll enter Alberta, Canada. If I don’t have wifi I won’t be able to blog. But I’ll be back just as soon as I am able.

  2. Great pictures, Deb. Yellowstone never disappoints with the wildlife. No fun getting caught in a traffic jam though. Those darn bison own the road out there! Travel On

  3. Fantastic pictures! I like Cannon Falls the best, no the bison, no the bear – heck I loved them all. Thanks for taking us along.

  4. You probably heard that Yellowstone is closed now due to heavy flooding. So glad you saw it earlier!
