Harvey got all fixed up with a new inverter and new water pump. Bucars RV Centre treated us well, making our appointment for early June when all the other places Steve called couldn’t do anything until August. They were very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. We spent a second night in their lot as the repairs weren’t complete until late afternoon. This time our minds were at ease that everything is fixed and we can head out tomorrow morning.
In the evening at the RV Centre we saw this in the parking lot. The photo doesn’t do it justice. It’s a Jack Rabbit (a small one so they say) and is as big as a medium-size dog.
At the entrance to the National Parks we needed to stop for a permit to drive through. In the lane was the first of many ravens that we would see.
Sometimes we stop at a scenic overlook like this icy lake and then we have a bite of lunch inside Harvey.
We stopped at the Columbia Icefields and Athabaska Glacier. We were content to buy the requisite souvenirs and view the glacier from across the way.
Athabaska Falls. Wow!
We just drove over that bridge way down there!
We arrived at our campground in Jasper National Park. This felt more like the camping we remember from our tent-camping days. There were elk outside the campground and two this morning a few yards from our campsite. Jasper is a small town with a row of tourist souvenir shops, a few restaurants and inns. We stopped for a short time and then went back to enjoy our campsite and a campfire.
Today we headed north and the topography changed from the Canadian Rockies to vistas of forests and many shades of green. The sky was a bright blue with puffy white clouds. We saw an area with piles and piles of logs ready for some industry. Now we’re in the only town of size that we’ve seen all day. Grand Prairie, AB, population of over 64,000. We drove into town but saw nothing charming. Any store you can imagine was here. It looked like Anytown USA. The campground is nice with other RVs nearby. Glad to have nice showers and laundry facilities here.

Debbie, I still remember Athabaska Falls and have a neat photo from below. I bet the glacier has receded a lot since we were there in about 1990.
What an adventure! Thankful that Harvey is back on the road.
Glad you got Harvey fixed. The pictures are fantastic and bring back lots of memories from when we rode from Calgary to Jasper National Park on our tandems back in the late 80’s when the kids were 6 and 8. That Jack Rabbit was huge! We have had a little visitor here at Lindsay’s. A skunk comes to visit occasionally, so Ron has blocked all the places on the fence that we think he is getting into their yard. Travel On my friends and enjoy your travels.
Glad Harvey is all better. He is such a handsome fellow – and dependable! The huge open vistas are breathtaking! And wow, that is one big rabbit! What is the deer-like animal?
That was an elk. Harvey gave us some grief again last night. Uh oh… I hope it was the campground’s problem and not ours. We’ll see tonight.
What beautiful scenery! Looks chilly though. Thank you for letting us follow along with you, vicariously, as you make your journey to Alaska,
Jasper looks incredible! So glad you’re seeing all this fun stuff. I don’t think I ever asked- is this your first time in Canada aside from Niagara Falls?
No, we’ve been on bike trips of French Canada with Rich and Lindy. Also rode the Laurentian Mountains up the St. Lawrence Seaway from Quebec City many years ago on an organized trip with Kathy and Seth. Saw whales on that one. Very hilly riding.
Such a small world. I didn’t know you knew Rich and Lindy and also Miriam!!
