Denali National Park and Preserve

The RV park is another one of those parking lots where all the campers are lined up in a row. No trees between but we met some nice neighbors from PA. We’re on a hill behind a long row of shops that are fun to go in and out of and they have kept us entertained.

When we arrived we drove into the National Park on the 15 mile road to Savage River and were lucky to see a caribou. The park road is closed at mile 43 due to a major landslide. There are some campgrounds at mile 93 now only reachable by air.

The next day was colder and lazier. We slept later and walked around. When we came back we had good hot soup in the RV and later had great ice cream. I guess it warmed up!

Yesterday (Friday) we went for a nice hike in the park to Horseshoe Lake .

  1. The color of the water is beautiful. Must be comfortable temps – Steve in short sleeves. Any animals on your hike? This is probably an ‘oh duh!’ comment……guess the graphic of TX inside Alaska is to show how huge Alaska is!

    • Temps in the high 60s or low 70s. There were a lot of people hiking that day so we only saw a robin and a few bugs!

  2. Wow, that mudslide must have really messed up traffic. Your hiking pictures by the lake as so pristine. And, soup and ice cream – doesn’t get better than that.
